Travellers again invade Silver Lane site

2

TRAVELLERS have again invaded land at Silver Lane, Risley – despite the barrier erected in an attempt to keep them off.
Police were called to the scene last night shortly after four or five vehicles arrived on the site.
A nearby resident said it appeared one vehicle had got stuck on bollards that had been erected on the site and that the barrier had been broken.
Cllr Sue Bland, of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council said: “I was telephoned shortly after the travellers arrived.
“Apparently there were about four or five vehicles at first but then others arrived later.
“I have been in touch with the borough council about the situation.
“It would seem there is no way to stop these people invading the site.”

  1. I wonder how much this total waste of money has cost us all so far, with still no sign of it being sorted out once and for all?
Firstly, whoever at the council decided that the latest barrier was good enough really should be ashamed of themselves. It is not fit for purpose (as proven) and is obviously too far down Silver Lane.
Secondly, could someone from the council please give us an idea of the expected yearly cost to us, for repairing the barrier every time, and the clean up when the travellers leave?
If Cllr Bland is correct and nothing can be done about it, then I can only suggest that they build the transit camp right there, down Silver Lane. If they’re going to be there anyway then it would solve a problem.

  2. Maybe you have a point there about it being a good spot for a legal transit site MYSTERIO as they do seem to favour that spot time and time again although I doubt local residents would be happy if it were to become a permanent site. It’s not the councils fault that they continue to go there though it’s the travelers fault !! They must know barriers have been put there to deter them but still they persist and ignore in the knowledge that all they will get is a ‘move on and bye’ notice….nothing worse.
