Travellers face court order after ignoring notice to leave

TRAVELLERS who have ignored a council notice to leave park land off Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington, now face a court order.

Warrington Borough Council served a notice asking the travellers to vacate the land within 24 hours after establishing there were no welfare issues last week.

The travellers arrived on the park area off Old River Road and Manx Road on July 6th but were still on site a week later.

A council spokesperson said that now the original notice had been ignored, the council would be seeking a court order, with the first available date next Monday (July 18).

  1. So they simply ignored the notice to leave and now the council has to get a court order to make them leave which they can’t get until the 18th…so that gives the travellers another 5 nights there in the knowledge that nothing can be done until then. What’s the betting they leave on the 17th or early morning on the 18th before it can be served. Silly council should have had it reported they are getting a court order now and it ‘might’ be as early as tomorrow…they might have been off in a flash today 😉 Saying that they will probably just move onto another nice little local spot nearby anyway and the whole procedure will have to be started again.
Nice spot where they are which is probably why they are staying so long. I might put our caravan there for a couple of weeks when they’ve gone and my relatives can come from down south and stay in it. If travelers can camp there for a few weeks then surely equality rules mean so can we !!

  2. They have completely destroyed the fields by churning it all up driving on an off all the time. One of them nearly ran my wife over driving on the footpath getting off the field. I hope that the council learns and put concrete bollards there to stop them returning otherwise they will be back in a few months ad we will have to put up with them again!

  3. Council should lock the gate across the field and not allow them to come and go freely. If they want to come out in their cars let them but ONLY IF they have their caravans attached and are leaving !!
Trouble is they all know the council is a soft touch cos of set rules and timescales they have to follow before evicting. Ridiculous and this so called legal site Warrington is supposed to be providing for them at great cost to the taxpayers wont change a thing. They will still go wherever they want !!
