Rain washes out local cricket programme

HEAVY rain which lashed the Warrington area on Saturday morning wiped out all hope of any cricket matches in the town.
The rest of Cheshire was similarly hit and only one local club managed to play – Stretton, who lost by 32 runs at Chester County Officers.
A Zubain took 3-38 for Stretton as Chester CO were bowled out for 131 but then Stretton collapsed to 99 all out.
The wash-out was particularly disappointing for Warrington and Grappenhall who were to play their second “derby” match of the season at Walton Lea.
Grappenhall were looking to win to bolster their challenge for promotion to the premier division of the Vivio Cheshire County League while Warrington were seeking revenge for the defeat they suffered in the first match of the season at Broad Lane.
It was particularly galling for Grappenhall as they lie second in the table, with 189 points while top club Didsbury managed to play their game at Tattenhall and won, picking up the full 25 points to take them to 232.
Grappenhall have now had three matches cancelled because of the weather this season, while Didsbury have only had one.
Warrington lie ninth in the table with 133 points
