Crosfields to host RFL Match Official’s course

CROSFIELDS ARLFC will host the next Rugby Football League Match Official’s course in the north west on Sunday, July 31.

The course is the perfect opportunity for wannabe match officials to take their first steps onto becoming the next rising star of rugby league refereeing.

It is also an excellent opportunity for those who still want to enjoy being active within our amazing sport, to get fit, and be part of rugby league at a community level.

The Match Official’s Course will go through the basic principles of the 13-a-side laws of the game, as well as test all applicant’s current knowledge of the game, and aim to expand that knowledge through theoretical and practical exercises.

After undertaking the course, newly qualified match officials are encouraged to join their local referee’s society.

At Warrington Rugby League Referee’s Society, new officials will join like-minded referees past and present, will debate topical and contentious points-of-play, learn in-depth laws of the game, and begin officiating at junior and lower levels of the community game.

After showing competence, knowledge and commitment, they will work their way up the Match Official’s Pathway and begin officiating on a higher standard of matches following the likes of Phil Bentham, and former RFL referee Karl Kirkpatrick.

Warrington RLRS Development Officer Graeme Chicken said: “Becoming an RFL match official is more than just applying the rule of the game and getting fit. It builds social skills, both with peers and players, and develops self-confidence and a range of other social skills.

“We’ve seen young referees develop from quiet and shy individuals, given them the encouragement to take the lead and control games, which has seen them grow into mature and confident men and women away from the rugby field as well as on it.”

The course will take place at Crosfields ARLFC, Hood Lane Recreation Ground, Hood Lane North, Great Sankey, Warrington, WA5 1ET, on Sunday, July 31 from 10am until approximately 4pm.

Further details on how to register for the course can be found at www.warringtonrlrs.webs.com, or alternatively contact the RFL Match Officials Department on 0113 823 9178 or email [email protected] for further information.
