OLDER and vulnerable people in Warrington are being encourage to take advantage of CareCall – the personal alarm system which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
As part of National Carer’s Week, the borough council is urging people to use the system to stay independent and in their own homes.
Carecall, at the touch of a button, provides round-the-clock access to professional assistance.
If feeling unwell, unsafe or after suffering a fall, Carecall gets assistance quickly, especially in an emergency,
Cllr Pat Wright (pictured), the council’s lead member for statutory health and social care, said: “Carecall is a service that enables people, especially older and more vulnerable individuals, to live independently in their own home, for as long as possible, providing peace of mind for both the individual and their relatives or carers.”
The service is linked to people’s homes through an existing telephone line, via a Carecall unit.  The customer is provided with a discreet, portable button which can be worn around the neck or wrist.
On pressing the alarm button, they are immediately connected to an operator at the Carecall control centre who will be able to speak to them, offer reassurance and obtain the appropriate professional help. The alarm can be activated around the house or in the garden.
It costs £40 for installation and set-up of the system, then a quarterly monitoring fee of £37.62, which is just 41p a day.
