Warning after women fall victim to upskirting crime

POLICE are warning members of the public to be on their guard following two arrests in relation to the taking of obscene images in retail areas of Warrington town centre.

The unrealted incidents followed tip-offs from members of the public who have witnessed the alleged behaviour.

In both cases, males were arrested for the alleged taking of upskirt type photographs of females. The victims were left very distressed.

The two incidents last month are in addition to virtually identical offences in other retail areas of Warrington earlier in the year – these also resulted in arrests.

Police say the invention of the compact HD cameras that now come with most affordable smart phones has made this offence very easy to carry out and increasingly common.

Offenders have been known to mount the cameras inside bags or baskets, or in some cases simply crouch down to take the photograph.

If you witness any suspicious activity that you think may be related to this type of offence contact police immediately on 101.
