CONCERNED Councillors have called for an urgent road safety review on Warrington’s Knutsford Road following recent police action which caught dozens of speeding motorists.
During the recent police traffic enforcement on Knutsford Road speeds ranged from 35-59mph in the 30 mph zone.
A total of 46 drivers received Traffic Offence Reports, while a further 33 drivers will receive Notice of Intended Prosecution through the post.
Latchford West Cllr. Maureen McLaughlin said: “Residents have been reporting to us that speeding is getting worse on this stretch of road and we requested action on speeding back in March. This work by the police is welcome, but I was shocked at the numbers of people caught speeding last Saturday.”
Fellow ward Cllr. Les Morgan added: “It is even more shocking that a driver was caught at nearly double the speed limit. When you consider that this stretch of road runs alongside a popular park where children play, it beggars belief that some drivers are behaving so recklessly.”
The Councillors have contacted the council’s chief executive Steven Broomhead, to press for an immediate and thorough review of road safety in this area and to examine measures to tackle the problem.

How many would have been caught if drivers travelling in the opposite direction didn’t flash their lights to warn speeding motorist. The police must be aware of this shouldn’t these drivers be prosecuted as well
