The collision occurred at approximately 10.30pm last Wednesday on the A57, Sankey Way, near to where the road crosses Sankey Valley Park.

The vehicle involved was a dark saloon car which received damage to the front nearside of vehicle and to the windscreen. The vehicle was later recovered in Grasmere Avenue.

Investigating Officer Sergeant Dave Harrison said: “This was a serious collision and I am keen to trace the person responsible.

“The A57 is a busy road, and one of the main thoroughfares into and out of Warrington town centre. I believe there would have been other people in the area at the time of the incident and I keen to speak them if they believe that they may have any information that could assist my investigation.”

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with eye witnesses saying the boy was “left for dead” by the motorist.

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 932 of 1/6/2016. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
