A woman has been airlifted to hospital with back injuries following a multiple vehicle collision on the M56 at Lymm this morning.

This was following a serious collision about a mile before junction 11 of the motorway at Daresbury at about 11.00am today (Wednesday, 1 June).

Two lanes of the eastbound carriageway were closed temporarily for an air ambulance to land, but that carriageway has now fully reopened.

Drivers using the M56 and M6 in Cheshire are advised the westbound M56 was reopened at 1.20pm after emergency services left the scene and three cars were recovered.

Although the motorway is now fully open again in both directions, drivers are advised to check traffic conditions before setting out on journeys if they wish to avoid residual congestion.

Drivers are urged to check travel conditions before setting out on journeys.

Highways England provides live traffic information via its website www.trafficengland.com, local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile platforms, such as the iPhone.
