THE WA (Warrington) postcode is officially the luckiest place to live in Cheshire – and one of the luckiest areas in the whole of the UK.

During the last two years, The National Lottery has made 13 millionaires in the WA postcode.

Warrington’s latest National Lottery winner, John Gill, has unveiled a lucky gold sign at Warrington’s famous Golden Gates.

John and his wife Patricia won £1m last Christmas Day. They bought their ticket just an hour before the EuroMillions Mega Friday draw took place.

He said: “It is fantastic to hear that Warrington is the luckiest place to live in Cheshire. Patricia and I certainly feel very lucky. Our win was the best ever ending to 2015 and best possible start to 2016.

“It is great to see so many National Lottery millionaires being made in Warrington and long may it continue. I will certainly be continuing to play – and even more so after hearing this latest news.”

Since the launch of The National Lottery a stunning 51 millionaires have been made in Warrington. In all, an impressive 472 major prizes of at least £50,000 have been banked by players in the WA postcode.

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor for The National Lottery, the man who pays out the big winners, said: “Warrington is known for having incredible luck on its side when it comes to Rugby League with some really great records over the years and this news surely confirms it.

“It is a fantastic town with some wonderful countryside and amazing places to live and in lots of ways residents are really lucky to live in this postcode – now they have even more reason to celebrate and love their postcode.

“There are now a massive 4,250 National Lottery millionaires across the country and with more than 6 new millionaires made every week there is likely to be another local winner made soon.”

It isn’t just individuals winning big, the entire community benefits from the money raised by The National Lottery. In 2015, 40 grants worth £3m were distributed to National Lottery funded projects in the Warrington area.

Among the projects in the WA postcode which have benefit from National Lottery funding are:

•Culture Warrington’s Pyramid to radically transform two disused buildings into Pyramid, a cutting edge centre for the arts which opened in 2002. It was the catalyst in creating Warrington’s Cultural Quarter and for the physical regeneration of the town centre.

•Heritage Family Support, a voluntary organisation that provides practical support and advice to families in Warrington. The funding from The National Lottery has allowed it to provide more services to help the community learn about living healthier and more fulfilled lives.

Each National Lottery player helps to raise over £34M every week for Good Causes. This helps fund our athletes competing at Rio, the nation’s arts and heritage, and many thousands of projects in local communities across the UK.
