Civic Society back Warrington’s bid for Capital of Culture

WARRINGTON Civic Society is backing in principal the town’s proposed bid for UK City of Culture 2021.

Architecture, heritage and the historic environment are all key to the judging criteria and the Civic Society welcomes any opportunity to celebrate and enhance these areas.

Chairman John Shipley said: “Whilst the feasibility and cost implications need to be investigated further, the benefits could be substantial.

“As well as the economic impact, a strong bid could help build pride in the town and strengthen the sense of community.”

warrington-worldwide exclusively revealed the council’s controlling Labour group’s proposal to look at bidding for Capital of Culture 2021 last week.

Great Sankey North Councillor Dan Price has been rasked with putting together a working party to examine the feasibility of making a bid, which will be done over the summer.
