Labour backing for striking junior doctors

WARRINGTON South Labour Party has given its full backing to local medics on the eve of a further strike by junior doctors.
They have also invited one of the doctors to address their next meeting.
New party member and Latchford resident Lisa Cooper brought a resolution to the  constituency party meeting, and it was passed with overwhelming support.
Junior Doctors were balloted on the need for strike action, and 98 per cent of the medics who took part in the strike ballot voted to strike.
Their next 48 stoppage begins at 8am tomorrow (Wednesday).
Lisa Cooper said: “As a carer for my mum I am in regular contact with local NHS services. I really appreciate the efforts made by NHS staff to provide the best possible service but I can also see that they are doing this under increasingly challenging circumstances such as managing waiting times and staff shortages.
“This contract will not relieve the pressures faced by patients and NHS staff. The government’s heavy-handed approach is to impose a contract which is not fit for purpose and they won’t stop with junior doctors.
“They will want to impose similar changes to the terms and conditions of other public sector employees.
“Junior Doctors already work seven days a week and as a carer I am grateful for work that they do. I support their aims to negotiate a better contract that’s both safe for patients like my mum and fair to them as employees.”
Nick Bent  constituency spokesman for Labour in Warrington South said: “Any patient who has had their operation cancelled or appointment postponed this week should be clear – don’t blame our junior doctors, blame Jeremy Hunt and David Cameron.”
