A WARRINGTON shop worker who lost her mum to a rare condition following a bone marrow transplant has persuaded work mates to join her in a fundraising climb of Snowdon – including her boss.
Jess Bennett lost her mum last year to Chronic GVHD, a side effect of having a bone marrow transplant to treat blood and bone cancer.
Ever since she has been fundraising for Cancer Research UK and now 14 workmates from Warrington’s Vodafone store, including manager Lee Smith, are joining her on the climb on Sunday, March 20.
Lee said: “This is a very rare condition and yet first a friend’s brother and then Jess’ mum have been affected by it, so having been touched in this way I felt compelled to do something.
“Snowdon is the first step for me.  I am already planning further climbs.  I’ve been delighted that so many people are now joining the team and I hope that collectively we can achieve our goal of raising as much money as possible so that more research can be done into Chronic GVHD.”
Jessica said: “I’ve already done one climb of Snowdon, which was quite a challenge, and I am glad so many people are joining us for the trek.  “Walking is something that we used to do as a family when I was younger, so this seemed to be the perfect way to do something positive in memory of my Mum.”
The team will be taking the Crib Goch route which is 2.8 miles making a total ascent of 880m, and one of the most difficult ways of climbing Snowdon.
