Free NHS health checks for the over 40s

PEOPLE aged between 40 and 74 in Warrington are being encouraged to take advantage of free NHS free health checks.
Residents in that age range are entitled to the free  checks which can help lower the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes and some types of dementia.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin (pictured), the borough council’s lead member for public health and wellbeing, said: “This free health check is a way for many people to reduce their risk of developing some serious conditions.
“It’s an important step towards improving your health and becoming more aware of what you can do to lead a healthier life.
“Your health check will provide you with information and support to help you reach your health goals and enjoy a better quality of life.
“As a council, we’re working in partnership with our GPs to make sure we reach those people who would really benefit from a health check. We also want to ensure that everyone has access to vital information and local services that will not only support them in making changes, but also reduce their risk of developing a serious illness.”
People who have the check should  have a good idea of what their risk is of developing heart disease, a stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and certain types of dementia.
But there are a lot of things that can be done to reduce the risk, including:     Maintain a healthy weight, be physically active, eat a healthy and balanced diet, stop smoking and cut down on alcohol.
