Poll opens for “a better Burtonwood”

VOTING opens today (Wednesday) in an innovative poll at Burtonwood to decide which of 12 local projects should benefit from a £20,000 handout.
The money comes from Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer’s participatory budgeting scheme which gives local residents the say on how the money is spent.
Mr Dwyer (pictured above) said: “When I launched the Participatory Budgeting pilot last year, I never realised the positive effect it would have. Everyone seems to have embraced Participatory Budgeting and people from across the community have come up with 12 fantastic ideas which can make ‘A Better Burtonwood’.
“I’ve read each project synopsis and I’m very impressed with each one. I don’t envy the residents who are voting, because there are some difficult decisions to be made to whittle the projects down to three.
“Each project is worthy of funding in its own right. I want to wish everyone involved the best of luck. I’m looking forward to hearing the result and speaking to the winners on February 16.”
Residents are receiving voting slips through their letterboxes this week and voting closes on February 12.
The winners will be announced on Tuesday, February 16 from 6.30pm at Burtonwood Community Centre on Clay Lane.
