Driving rain did little to dampen the spirits of the 60 volunteers who swept around Warrington, collecting 1400 tired Christmas trees during St. Rocco’s first fundraiser of the year.

Residents donated money in return for their used trees to be picked up and recycled and their generosity saw the initiative raise a fantastic £18,300 – more than £6,000 up on 2015.

The service was provided in partnership with Warrington Borough Council, Ground Level, Golden Gates Housing Trust, Asda Logistics, BT Skips, White Moss and Shades of Green.

Over £45,000 has been raised from the service since its launch in 2012, with the winter fundraiser going from strength to strength.

Sophie Birch, Events Fundraiser at St. Rocco’s, organised the collection. She said:  “We’re all absolutely delighted with how much has been raised this year, and it’s a fantastic start to 2016.

“The tree collection is a great example of organisations across Warrington coming together to support the Hospice and we would like to thank all our partners, volunteers and of course everyone who made use of the service by donating to St. Rocco’s.”
