Council unveils joined-up services for children

PLANS to provide joined up services for children and young people in Orford have been unveiled by Warrington Borough Council – and service users are being asked for their views.
The council is consulting on proposals to move Sandy Lane Children’s
Centre services to Orford Youth Base, creating a family hub for families with children aged 0-19.
Cllr Jean Carter (pictured), lead member for children’s services, said: “The needs of families in Warrington are changing so council services need to change
too. Our building on Sandy Lane is very near two other facilities for children and young people. It makes sense to use the larger of these buildings to the maximum and free up the resources spent on managing a building.
“A family hub would mean families would benefit from seeing familiar faces all the way through their child’s development, rather than having to go to somewhere different depending on the age of each of their children.”
This innovative plan is one of many being made to protect front line services and vulnerable people from the impact of government cuts. The council is looking at all its services and buildings to make them more efficient and save money.
Residents who have used the centre in the last 12 months will be contacted by letter, but any resident can comment on the proposal through the council website www.warrington.gov.uk/consultation
Questions can also be asked at three special events being held at Sandy Lane Children’s Centre.
*Tuesday January 19, 9.30am-11am
*Monday February 1, 1pm-2.30pm
*Thursday February 4, 6pm-7.30pm
The consultation closes on Wednesday February 10.
