Cold weather alert for Warrington

THE Met Office has issued a Level 2 cold weather alert for Warrington and the rest of the North West – and that has been reinforced by a warning from the borough council.
Town Hall chiers are reminding people to look out for vulnerable neighbours and friends and to take care when out and about.
A Level 2 alert means that within the next 48 hours there is a 60 per cent chance of severe weather, with average temperatures of 2C° or below. Severe cold weather can be dangerous, especially for the very young or very old or those with serious medical conditions.
The council’s public health team is promoting messages to help people stay warm and well during cold weather.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin (pictured), lead member for public health and wellbeing
said: “It is important to stay warm, well and safe. Residents should check weather forecasts before heading out, ensure they wear lots of thin layers, and have plenty of warm food and drinks to stay warm. They should also wear shoes with a good, slip-resistant grip to prevent any accidental falls.
“It’s also important for people to stay warm indoors particularly those who are 65 or over, have long term health conditions, or young children.”
Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from the winter health pages at NHS Choices, www.nhs.uk, or from local chemists. Anyone worried about their health or that of somebody they know should ring NHS 111.
