THE work of the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit will be explored at a free public lecture at Warrington next week.
Detective Superintendent Jason Hudson, head of operations for TITAN – the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit – will deliver the lecture in the Lance Dobson Hall at the Warrington campus of the University of Chester on Tuesday January 12 at 6.30pm.
The lecture will look at the Unit’s mission to tackle those criminals having the greatest impact on communities of the North West.
A collaborative multi agency team, the unit is represented by Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and Greater Manchester Police Forces, as well as embedded partners from the National Crime Agency, HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs), Police Scotland and the Crown Prosecution Service.
Since 2009, the unit has arrested more than 530 organised criminals who have been sentenced to more than 2,000 years imprisonment. It has seized more than £63 million of controlled drugs and 59 firearms.
Det Supt Hudson is an officer with 29 years’ police service, mostly dealing with serious and organised criminals.
The Warrington Campus is home to the University’s Institute of Policing which was established in partnership with Cheshire Constabulary and offers a number of courses for anyone contemplating a police career.
The courses aim to equip students with the skills, knowledge and vocational competence required to become a police officer. The lecture is hosted by Geoff Elvey, head of the Institute of Policing.
The lecture is part of a series of free public lectures being held at the Warrington Campus this year.
Professor Annette McIntosh-Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Provost of the Warrington Campus, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Det Supt Jason Hudson to the campus for what will be a fascinating talk into the work of the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit. We hope that many members of the public, staff and students are able to attend.
“The series of public lectures is a wonderful example of the university’s values, as we seek to demonstrate the importance and strength of local partnership in our areas of teaching and research at the Warrington Campus – Policing, Heath and Social Care, Education, Business and Sport.”
