MP warns people about fraudsters

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones is reminding people to be aware of fraudsters,  particularly at this time of year when there is an increase in fraud and scams.

Across the UK, the number of people who have fallen victim to identity fraud has risen by 37%.

Helen Jones said: “Fraud is a serious issue for everyone.  There are a number of things you can do to help prevent fraud.

“Keep your passwords complex and hard to crack by picking three random words.

“Install anti-virus software on your laptop and other personal devices and then keep it up to date.

“Take care on public wi-fi.  Avoid accessing sensitive apps such as mobile banking.

“Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in e-mails.  Visit websites independently.

“Remember,  no legitimate organisation will ask you to transfer money to a ‘safe’ account,  disclose your PIN or other security details in full,  or withdraw cash for anti-fraud measures.”

If you become a victim report the matter to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online atwww.actionfraud.police.uk
