Temporary town centre car park now open

A 200 space temporary car-park has been opened on the Bridge Street Quarter Regeneration site in time to support the Christmas trade in the Market and Town Centre.

The temporary car-park is situated on land between Bank Street, Academy Way and Academy Street and will cost only £1.00 for up to three hours parking.

Delivered by Warrington & Co. on behalf of Warrington Borough Council, the car-park will remain in situ until work commences on the construction of the cinema and restaurant units.mike-hannon

Mike Hannon, Deputy Leader of Warrington Borough Council (pictured) said: “The opening of the temporary car-park is great news for the ongoing development of the Bridge Street scheme.

Not only does it mean that the car-park is open for the busy Christmas period and will provide a great boost for the market but it also demonstrates that work on this fantastic scheme is well on schedule.”

A planning application will shortly be submitted for approval to construct a new permanent, 1,200 space, multi-storey car-park that will support the entire Bridge Street scheme. Construction will start in 2016 and complete in mid 2017.

The Bridge Street Scheme started on site earlier this year with the demolition of the existing Times Square buildings and the remediation of the site. Local contractor CPUK have been appointed to construct the first element of the Bridge Street Quarter Regeneration Scheme – the retail unit that will temporarily house the market hall and will be on site prior to Christmas. The market will move into this temporary location in 2017 whilst the new, permanent £10 million 31, 150 sq. ft. covered market hall is being constructed.

As one of the most significant projects in the “Warrington Means Business” regeneration plans, Warrington & Co. and Warrington Borough Council have worked with traders and local businesses to keep them informed of the redevelopment plans that when completed in 2019 will significantly revitalise the town centre.

The Bridge Street Quarter Regeneration Scheme – that has been driven and will be delivered by Warrington & Co. on behalf of Warrington Borough Council with development manager Muse Developments – will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors when the whole project is fully completed in 2019.
