Neighbours lose battle over bungalow in a garden

NEIGHBOURS have lost a planning battle to block proposals for a dormer bungalow in the garden of an existing bungalow at Fearnhead, Warrington.
Planning bosses have given the go-ahead for the scheme after hearing from officers that the principle of residential development on the site was acceptable and the additional bungalow would help cater for a likely strong local demand.
Sixteen nearby residents had opposed the scheme in Cinnamon Lane.
They argued that the site was designed to be a garden, that additional housing would cause noise, traffic and road safety hazards, would destroy a natural habitat and would amount to unacceptable backland development.
Fears are expressed that the scheme could set a precedent for similar developments on Cinnamon Lane and that the whole site could be sold and the existing bungalow demolished to make way for a “mini-estate.”
There is also concern at the possible loss of trees.
Officers pointed out that none of the trees on the site were protected so could be removed at any time without the need for permission.
The approval relates to a proposed access and layout for the proposed dwelling, with all detailed matters, including landscaping and design of the new dwelling, reserved for a later application.
