Green bin collections coming to an end

THERE’S less than a month to go before green bin collections stop for the winter at Warrington.
Borough council chiefs are reminding residents to fill up their green bins before the final collections between November 17 and 27.
Final collection date for various areas of the borough can be found on the collection calendar on the bin.
Collections will start again in early March but in the meantime, residents are advised to take any green waste they have to community recycling centres at Gatewarth, Woolston or Stockton Heath.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, the council’s lead member for environment and public protection, said: “We would like to thank residents for their support in recycling and composting in 2015.
“We have now composted over 107,000 tonnes of garden waste since the scheme started in 2006. This year, to thank residents, we have given away over 20 tonnes of free compost at 13 community events across the borough and we plan to organise more compost give-aways next year.”
The green bins are for garden waste which includes grass cuttings, hedge clippings, prunings, twigs and small branches, weeds, plants, dead flowers, leaves and bark.
