FOLLOWING the success of the 2015 Magic Weekend, the Super League is delighted to announce that the 2016 event will be returning to St James’ Park, Newcastle on Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22.

Warrington Wolves will play Castleford Tigers on Saturday 21 May, 4.45pm.

Magic Weekend was first held in Newcastle earlier this year and more than 67,000 fans were in attendance across the course of the weekend – the highest ever for the two-day event.Tony-Smith-Head.jpg

Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “Magic Weekend is a fantastic concept and has grown year on year. I can’t believe we are already looking forward to the tenth weekend! It’s great to see the whole Rugby League family coming together, enjoying everything our sport has to offer across a packed two days.

“The Wire supporters always travel in numbers wherever the event is hosted and love the atmosphere of the opening Saturday. Taking the weekend up to Newcastle this year was a huge breakthrough and we are already looking forward to heading back there next year. We’ve got different opposition in 2016 and if this year’s games against Cas Tigers were anything to go by it should be another memorable one.”

Super League General Manager Blake Solly said: “We’re delighted that Magic Weekend will be staged at Newcastle’s St James’ Park in 2016. Magic Weekend this year was a huge success, where we had a record attendance for the weekend and for the Saturday. I would like to thank everyone in Newcastle for their support with the event and hopefully we can build on the brilliant success of 2015.”
