Firefighters tackle barn blaze

FIREFIGHTERS from Warrington and Stockton Heath were involved in tackling a barn blaze off Tarporley Road, Lower Whitley, near Warrington which created lengthy traffic delays on the A49.

Six fire engines were called to the scene, as fire crews, using two jets  tackled the blaze from a safe distance as the building  contained two cylinders, including propane gas.

They successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other farm buildings that contained amounts of straw and hay.

Crews have accessed a nearby open water supply to help with the firefighting.

One of the two cylinders has been safely removed and crews continue to monitor the second one to ensure it does not pose a risk.

Crews are expecting to be at the scene throughout the night.

Please be aware that there is currently significant disruption on the A49. Please avoid the area if possible.
