THE Mayor of Warrington Cllr Geoff Settle led a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day, which marked the end of World War Two.

Cllr Settle was joined by councillors and representatives from the Friends of Warrington War Memorial / Cenotaphand Blue Apple Heroes as he lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in Bridge Foot and held a one minute silence to mark the historic anniversary.

Cllr Settle said: “We were lost in our thoughts during the ceremony.   I thought about the horrors of what had gone on during the conflict and how even when the war though the war had ended it took some people months before they returned home.

“I am very grateful that I didn’t have to go through such experiences because of the sacrifices made by the men and women in our Armed Forces during this conflict.”
