WARRINGTON showjumper Jay Buxton will take part in the International Classes at the Horse of the Year Show in October after winning the wild card qualifying class at the British National Showjumping Championships at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.

Jay, aged 24, from Croft, had only just regained fitness after fracturing his back in a fall at a show in Valencia in March.

He was riding his girl friend Paige Law’s horse “High Offley Arturos Catch” which he was competed on for two years.

The competition ran over three days and, after competing on the Friday and Saturday, he decided not to compete on Sunday.

But at the last minute he changed his mind and decided to enter the last class.

He said: “I had no expectations for the class and was surprised when the results were announced and I was the highest point scorer.”

Jay has been riding since he was 10. When he was 16 he went to work for leading showjumper William Funnell and has since trained in Holland before moving to Croft where he and Paige have set up their own yard where they intend to produce showjumping horses.

Paige, originally from Essex, had the horse as a five-year-old and competed with him up to Foxhunter level before passing him on to Jay.
