3am river rescue drama at Warrington

FOUR fire engines, a boat and a rope-rescue team from Knutsford were involved in an operation to rescue a man from the Mersey at Warrington in the early hours of today.
The alarm was raised after the man was seen in the water at Kingsway Bridge at around 3.40am.
Firefighters from Warrington Fire Station, using a boat, rescue the man and he was handed over to ambulance crews and taken to hospital for a check-up. Police were also at the incident.
Appliances from Warrington, Stockton Heath and Knutsford were called out to deal with the incident.
The casualty is not believed to have been seriously harmed and no details of how he came to be in the river have been given.

Last night, firefighters were called to reports of a wooden hut on fire at Woolston District Park. On arrival, crews discovered smoke coming from the roof of the hut and used two water backpacks to extinguish the fire.
