A WARRINGTON church is seeking relatives of a woman whose family gifted a cross in her memory – before sending it on to a link church in Nigeria.
The cross was gifted to St Thomas’ Church at Stockton Heath “In memory of Jesse Borthwick Finlayson who departed this life December 4th 1951”.
In recent months St Thomas’ & St Mary Magdalene’s, Stockton Heath & Appleton, have been raising money for their link Parish of St David’s in Osi. Nigeria.
They have been so successful, they have recently replaced their Church doors and windows and, in future months, they hope to replace the floor and put in a ceiling.
Now their representative in Nigeria, Chief (Dr) Oluwashe.O.Olojugba, will be visiting the Church in September and the Parochial Church Council have voted overwhelmingly to give St David’s a gift of a cross and candlesticks which are surplus to requirements at St Thomas’. St David’s have not got a proper cross for their altar table).
Reverend Michael Ridley,Parish of St Thomas & St Mary Magdalene’s said: “We have received permission from the Diocese for this, but the cross was given “In memory of Jesse Borthwick Finlayson who departed this life December 4th 1951”.
“We are seeking any family of the Late Jesse Borthwick Finlayson, to see if they have any objections to the cross and candlesticks being gifted?
