Unattended barbecue sets fire to two houses

AN unattended barbecue is believed to have started a fire which spread to two houses at Warrington.
The blaze was in Vulcan Close, Fearnhead and three fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood were sent to the scene.
They found that a blaze involving fencing outside a house had spread to the loft space of two properties.
Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and a ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from the properties.
Firefighters used a seven metre ladder to cut away part of the eaves of the two houses then removed loft insulation from the two houses to ensure there was no further spread of the fire.
No-one was hurt in the incident which is believed to have been causes by an unattended barbecue setting fire to the fence.
In another incident, a fire crew from Birchwood went to the hard shoulder of the M6 southbound carriageway, near Junction 18, where a propane cylinder was leaking. Firefighters made the cylinder safe and removed it from the site.
