FIREFIGHTERS are involved in an ongoing barn fire at Warrington today.
The blaze started yesterday on farmland off Sandy Lane, Great Sankey and fire engines from Warrington, Widnes and Stockton Heath were sent to the scene.
A large quantity of hay was involve in the fire and fire crews used two hose reel jets to tackle the flames while the farmer used farm machinery to remove unaffected hay from the area.
The farmer used machinery to spread out the contents of the barn so firefighters could dampen it down.
Eventually the number of fire engines was reduced to three and then two, but one appliance remained at the scene throughout the night using a main jet to damped down the whole area.
One appliance remains at the scene today.
Cause of the fire has not been revealed.  No-one is reported hurt.
