WARRINGTON firefighters joined forces with doctors, paramedics, medical students and others for a training event to help keep local people safe.
Basics North West – and organisation run by the North West Ambulance Service – visited Warrington Fire Station on Winwick Road to stage a training exercise scenario depicting a road traffic collision with people trapped.
Experienced doctors with varying specialities were in the group of 15 people also including paramedics, medical students, GPs, North West Air Ambulance and Accident and Emergency staff, along with firefighters.
They studied better ways to work together during major incidents and got to look at some of the equipment other partner agencies use at incidents.
The Basic group works for the Trauma Cell, part of North West Ambulance Service, and responds to trauma calls giving the medical teams more advanced knowledge and techniques.
Warrington watch manager Jonathan Hill co-ordinated the event.
He said: “The point of this training exercise was to gain a better understanding of how we all work and to learn from each other about the various roles we play at incidents.
“As part of the exercise we got see some of the equipment used by other partner agencies and then we worked to remove the roof of a car to highlight how this would aid the treatment and rescue of a casualty in a road traffic collision.
“This was a very worthwhile exercise where everyone gained valuable experience in an area that may not be their expertise.”
