Stage school’s radio play

STUDENTS from a children’s stage school recorded a specially devised play to celebrate VE Day – which was broadcast to patients at Warrington Hospital.
The youngsters from Latimer Hulse Theatre Arts, based at Lymm Youth and Community Centre, recorded the play in April and was later broadcast by Radio General – the hospital radio service.
There were too many students to record the play at the hospital’s radio studio so DJ Jim Jeffries and his wife Vee took the studio to the students and the play was recorded in Lymm.
The play told the story of  children’s experiences in World War 2 and included excerpts from speeches by Churchill, sound effects and wartime music.
The children thoroughly enjoyed devising the drama based on research. Just like a professional company of actors they used improvisation techniques to help create the script.
Feedback received from the hospital has been terrific. Jim said that patients had come to him and thanked him for the special performance.
