A NEW not-for-profit social enterprise shop has opened in Lymm – offering local people the chance to recycle unwanted items which would otherwise end up in a landfill site.
Skipthetips.org has opened a shop at the Heatley Mere Business Centre, Chaise Meadows and is now searching for premises to launch a hands-on job club to give volunteers the opportunity to learn new skills refurbishing donated goods.
VIP guests at the official opening of the shop included Warrington South MP David Mowat and local councillor Sheila Woodyatt.
Skipthetips.org is the brainchild of Lymm residents and environmentalists Michelle Booth and Carol Crossley.
Overall aim of the enterprise is to tackle the crisis facing local councils due to the overuse of landfill sites.
Michelle said: “Our objective is to help you help them recycle your unwanted items.
“These donated items will then be available for sale to the general public. All profits are then re-invested back into the enterprise and the local community.”
skipthetips.org will accept and/or collect, free of charge, clothing, furniture, white goods, electrical items, bric-a-brac etc.
They are also looking for a workshop or empty premises for their hands-on job club where they can offer unemployed people access to volunteering opportunities.
These people would recycle, repair and “upcycle” furniture and goods that have been donated locally. A number of retired tradesmen are willing to Take part in the job club to offer skill sharing, mentoring and confidence building which will ultimately get the volunteers  back into  employment.
Skipthetips.org are looking for more retired and/or unemployed trades people – painters, carpenters,  etc – to help them in the up-cycling and repair of furniture to sell in their shops.
They also are looking for volunteers to help run the shop.
