WARRINGTON Wolves started the new season with a tough 22-8 win over Salford Red Devils.
It took 27 minutes for the Halliwell Jones Stadium to witness its first try of the season, Richie Myler the scorer.
Mickey Higham dived over for a second try, both converted by Stefan Ratchford, as Tony Smith’s men led 12-0 at the break.
Both sides had men sin-binned either side of half time – Adam Walne for the Red Devils and Ben Westwood for the hosts – but it was while the Wolves were without Westwood that they stretched their lead, Ryan Atkins collecting Gareth O’Brien’s grubber kick to score.
Salford finally got on the board shortly before the hour, through debutant Ben Jones-Bishop, though another new boy, Michael Dobson, missed the conversion.
At 18-6, Wolves introduced Gary Wheeler for a debut, their third new face – with Daryl Clark and Ashton Sims playing from the start.
Rhys Evans sealed victory with their fourth try, before Jones-Bishop added a consolation late on.
