A community clean-up day isd set to take place in Whitecross, Warrington, tomorrow, Saturday (September 20), from 10am – 3pm.
The call to arms is being led by residents, local councillors, Warrington Borough Council and Golden Gates Housing Trust. Residents will be meeting at Whitecross Community Centre at 9.30am.
The group is determined to win back their streets from fly tippers and people who deliberately dump waste in the area.
Council staff will be on hand to help and together the group will tackle issues such as fly-tipping, dog fouling and removing bulky waste items.
Cllr Kate Hannon, (pictured) executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “We can’t tackle these things alone and need people to come forward and help look after their own communities. We are keen to support these type of events and will provide support and help where we can.
“It’s fantastic that the public are helping to clean up their local area; however I’m sure that everyone will want it to be kept this way in future so that their considerable efforts do not to go in vain. Consequently, we will next be working with the community to identify those that continue to have a disregard for their neighbourhood, dropping litter and fly-tipping, making sure that we use the law to it full extent to tackle offenders and keep the area clean and tidy for all to enjoy.”
If you would like to be part of the clean-up campaign, contact Lyn Mullen on 01925 256908, or turn up at the centre on the day.
