TWO Warrington Foundations are supporting 17-year-old Benjamin Newlove from Old Hall who has been given a boarding scholarship to the prestigious Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.
Warrington and District arts Council has given him a grant of £200 and he has received £500 from the Jane and Stephen Murphy Foundation which supports talented students in Warrington.
Ben was formerly Head Boy at Great Sankey High and Organ Scholar at Grade 8 in Piano, Organ and Trumpet although he has been playing the organ for only two years.
He comes from a musical family: his father Stephen and two sisters Rebekah and Rosie are proficient pianists and his uncle is organist at St Mark’s in Sheffield.
Ben, who is also a footballer and cricketer, will study A levels and music at Chetham’s for the next two years and hopes to go on to university to pursue a musical career. He said “I hope to be a credit to my family and everyone else who has helped me.”
