21 affordable homes planned

A PLAN to build 21 “affordable” houses for rent on the site of a former nursing home at Warrington is to go before members of the borough council’s planning committee.
The development is proposed for the site of the former Houghton Hall, in Greenwood Crescent, Orford and would be carried out by the council itself.
Houghton Hall was demolished some time ago and the site is considered suitable for rented affordable housing due to the proximity of a small parade of shops.
All the proposed houses would be two storey and there would be a mix of semi-detached properties and small terraces. Provision would be made for gardens, sheds, bin stores and the site would be landscaped.
There are a number of large poplar trees on the site but the council’s arboricultural officer says they have little individual merit and not of sufficient quality to merit protection. They would not be ideally located for retention and there removal would not be contested provided replacement planting of a more suitable species was carried out.
Officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
