MP David Mowat has welcomed the news that three telephone exchanges in Warrington will be upgraded as part of a Government programme to roll out superfast broadband across the country.
Connecting Cheshire, the organisation responsible for delivering the programme across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington, have announced that the exchanges at Westwood, Dallam and Winwick would all be upgraded to the new fibre broadband next year.
Upgrading the exchanges will mean much faster broadband speeds for the surrounding area.
The existing exchanges in Penketh, Great Sankey and central Warrington will also receive additional funding to help them supply superfast broadband to a larger area.
Mr Mowat has previously encouraged residents in Chapelford to register their interest as part of the Connecting Cheshire programme. The campaign was launched across his website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
David Mowat said: “Local residents in Chapelford in Whittle Hall have told me that this is the number one issue affecting their local area. I’ve been encouraging as many local people as possible to register their interest with Connecting Cheshire so that they are aware just how high the demand for better broadband is.
“It’s unfortunate that this upgrade couldn’t be done wholly with private money, but I am pleased that the Conservative-led Government has stepped in to provide the money necessary for my constituents to have 21st Century broadband.”
