SIX Warrington Collegiate students will be bidding to become the best in the UK at the Skills Show in Birmingham next month.
A trio of talented accountants, studying at Higher Education level will be representing the North West in the AAT skills competition. Susan Holliday from Grappenhall, Amy Knight from Widnes and Wendy Smith from Orford will battle it out.
Amanda Garrett, lecturer in Accountancy, Warrington Collegiate, said: “This is the second year we’ve entered the team event, and again we’ve reached the final. We’re also thrilled that last years winners Emma Ratcliffe and Rachel Parsley have been invited back to the skills show to talk to the competitors and support them through the competition.”
Joining the AAT team at the show are students competing in the individual competitions, two from Beauty therapy, Laura Johnson for Beauty Therapy and Lucy Taylor in Nail Enhancements. Mike Yuile will be representing the North West in the Plumbing competition.
Paul Hafren, Principal at Warrington Collegiate, added: “This is a wonderful achievement, both for the students and the college. Each year we have a greater number of students who reach that elite level. These students are already regional winners and now have the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills at this prestigious event as they bid to be crowned national champions.”
Former student Ashley Terron won Gold at the World Skills International competition in Leipzig earlier this year, while Laura Johnson has been invited to train with Team GB for the next world event in Brazil in 2015.
The Skills Show takes place between November 14-16 at Birmingham NEC, and is the UK’s largest skills and careers event.
