Students praised for safety video

CREATIVE Media students at Warrington Collegiate have been praised for their work on an electricity safety video.
Working with Ulster TV (UTV), the students took part in every aspect of the video from producing and directing to sound, camera work and editing in the post-production phase.
Stuart Heaton from UTV was impressed with the students commitment and willingness to give up a large part of their summer break to produce the video, for Electricity North West.
He said: “I’d love to use the students from Warrington Collegiate on other projects. They did a brilliant job; clearly we are looking at future stars in the media industry. Using the latest technologies they made a really modern video in a different style than if we had just done it ourselves.
“This video was made by young people for young people which makes it much more engaging because they are in the same age bracket as the target audience.”
The video not only spells out the dangers of going too near to Electricity Substations, but also invites audience participation.
The viewers in the schools and colleges are encouraged to make their own radio advert, then pitch it to Electricity North West via the uCreate e-learning platform. The winners will be used by Electricity North West as part of a future safety campaign.
Student Victoria Lawton, aged 19 from Birchwood, said: “Making the video was really amazing. It’s great to be part of a production team; it gives you a real insight into the demands of the media industry.
“I particularly like the way the video encourages the audience to get involved and do something as a result of watching it – it reinforces the message and could act as a life saver for some young people.”
