MP Helen Jones joined the children at the Little Bears Playgroup in Orford, Warrington to celebrate World School Milk Day (WSMD).
She acted as a milk monitor – and enjoyed meeting the “little bears” and seeing how much they enjoyed their milk.
WSMD is organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and is celebrated in more than 30 countries around the world. The first took place in the year 2000.
The Warrington North MP said: “The goal of World School Milk Day is to celebrate children drinking milk in school and early years settings and it promotes the importance of drinking milk at school to children in a fun and educational way.
“A third of a pint of milk contains over half of a child’s daily reference intake of calcium which is vital to help build strong and healthy teeth and bones.”
In the UK every child under the age of five in a day care or early years setting for two or more hours a day is entitled to a free serving of milk – one third of a pint – funded by the Department of Health.
