WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat gave a key note speech at the Conservative Party Conference on the benefits of Nuclear Power.
Speaking at the event hosted by Nuclear Management Partners and Dods Engagement, Mr Mowat stressed the importance of nuclear power as part of the energy mix and in helping to reduce carbon emissions.
He also highlighted the effect on Warrington of a resurgence of nuclear power. The most recent estimates suggest around 3,200 jobs in the town are linked to the nuclear supply chain.
Speaking after the event, Mr Mowat said: “Whilst renewable energy sources are important, in my view if the UK is serious about cutting its carbon emissions, nuclear power has to play a part. It can reduce emissions, increase energy security and keep down bills in the long run.
“Warrington has been a “nuclear town” for many years and thousands of jobs are linked to the supply chain. Any revival of our civil nuclear power programme will bring more highly-skilled jobs to our town.”
