Where older people can get help

PUBLIC health chiefs at Warrington Borough Council are keen to raise awareness of mental health issues among older people – and to make sure they know where they can get help.
The public health team will be working closely with older people’s groups and attending a series of events to mark World Mental Health Day on Thursday, October 10.

It is being supported at a range of events taking place throughout October that people can get involved in.
On Tuesday, October 1, Old People’s Celebration Day will take place at The Gateway from 10am to4pm.
Planned activities include music and entertainment, pampering sessions and painting. Members of the public are welcome to drop in on the day.
On Wednesday, October 2, as part of the “Bewsey Warm, Well and Safe” campaign, health and wellbeing information is being delivered to more than 500 homes in Bewsey and Dallam.
A drop in event will be held at the Bewsey Pavilions. There will be healthy recipes and meals along with health and wellbeing information.
Monday to Thursday, October 14-17 will see a 50-plus health care event in the Old Market Place.
The Public Health Team will have an information stand on Tuesday October 15 October from 10am to 2pm which will offer healthy ageing information, games, quizzes and the opportunity to sign up to become a volunteer.
On Tuesday, October 29 a community event for older people from Orange Grove and Avery Close will be held including free hotpot and hot drinks at Capesthorne Community Centre.
Cllr Pat Wright, the borough council’s lead member for health, wellbeing and adult services, said: “The aim of the day is to raise awareness of mental health issues and to reduce stigma relating to mental ill-health. It’s so important to take care of your mental health and we want to let people know that lots of local support is out there. These activities and events are a celebration of the older people in our community.”
