Town centre takeaway storm

1

A PLAN to convert a taxi office in town centre Warrington into a hot food takeaway shop has resulted in a storm of protest.
The occupants of 10 adjoining properties in Buttermarket Street have lodged strong objections to the proposal by Papa Johns Ltd.
They warn of increased rubbish, smells, anti-social behaviour, a lack of off-street parking, increased traffic at a busy junction and harm to the appearance of the area.
The property is sited in a row of commercial premises and is within a Conservation Area. It has a restricted parking area at the front.
Planning officers are recommending approval, however.
They say the majority of customers are expected to be on foot and staff levels will not exceed the existing taxi office.
It will have a neutral effect on the character of the area. There would be no loss of retail space and no impact on the vitality of the town centre.
A small, single-storey rear extension would not be visible to most people passing the building.
Conditions can be imposed to prevent the smells of cooking becoming a problem.
