MP and son go back to school

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones and her son – Culcheth councillor Chris Vobe – joined staff, governors and pupils at Culcheth Primary School for three separate events – including the launch of the school’s new Key Stage 2 play area.
They met with parents and local residents for the Macmillan Coffee Morning, which was held in the school hall to raise funds for the cancer charity.
Cakes and refreshments had been prepared by Culcheth parents, who embraced the opportunity to help support the worthy cause.
Next, Ms Jones was joined by the whole school to officially open the new Key Stage 2 play area.
Instead of a ribbon cutting, she led the dozens of pupils in a “count
down” to officially launch the play area – before the big rush to be the first to try out the new slide and climbing frame began!
School staff, governors and head teacher Amanda Dodd were present as the MP unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening day and spent some
extra time with the enthusiastic pupils as they tried out their new
equipment.
Afterwards, Ms Jones and Cllr Vobe met pupil Emma Johnson, aged 10, one of the regional winners in the Royal Mail’s Christmas Stamp Design Competition.
Emma’s entry will be going through to the next stage of the competition where local judges will select the top two designs from the region to go through to the national final.
The Prince of Wales will then choose the two designs that will feature on 2013’s First and Second Class Christmas stamps.
Ms Jones said: “It was a pleasure to spend the morning at Culcheth Primary School with Mrs Dodd and the pupils. The new outdoor play equipment will offer a range of new opportunities for Key Stage 2 children.
“I was delighted to be able to officially open it and there was certainly no doubt that the children were hugely enthusiastic when they were able to play on the new site for the first time.”
Cllr Vobe added: “It was a pleasure to meet with Emma and see her design for the Royal Mail Christmas Stamp competition, which is simply fantastic.
“Emma’s artwork will be going forward to the next stage, where we hope she will be selected for the national final. Helen and I were delighted to be able to speak with her during our visit and can’t wait to hear how she progresses in the competition.”

  1. It is a report worthy of the BBC written by Jones’s Press Officer (Hendon?), no mention of the leading Culcheth Conservative Keith Bland’s attendance at the school and on the photo.

  2. Is the Jones/Vobe woman the MP for Culcheth & Glazebury now or is that just where she has her second or third home these days? Silly me thought she was MP for the whole of Warrington North!!
