OVER a period of some 18 months, a Warrington man claimed benefit totalling £12,742 to which he was not entitled, a court has been told.
John Trubacik, aged 60, of Park Road, Great Sankey claimed the money from Warrington Borough Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) without declaring that he had savings above the prescribed limit.
Trubacik admitted to offences of benefit fraud and was sentenced to a 300-hour community punishment order and ordered to pay £260 costs.
He was also ordered to repay the money.
Halton Magistrates Court heard Trubacik claiming £6,632 housing benefit fromj the council and £6,119 incapacity benefit from the DWP.
After the hearing, Adrian Webster, the council’s benefits and exchequer services manager, said: “All benefit theft is crime. There are no exceptions and that is why the council is determined
to bring fraudsters to justice.”
