Bus strikes to continue

AN eight hour meeting between bus company Network Warrington, union leaders and ACAS officials has failed to resolve the series of bus strikes currently affecting the town.
As a result, the next one-day strike by bus works will start at one minute passed Midnight on Sunday.
In a statement, Network Warrington said: “Over the past 16 years, the staff of Network Warrington have received an annual pay award.
“In the past three years, when other companies and organisations have maintained a pay freeze, the company managed to deliver above inflation pay awards.
“The 12 month pay freeze applies to all staff, including directors and senior management.
“The company is experiencing difficult trading conditions in common with the national trend within the bus industry and is predominantly driven by reduced patronage in the town.”
The company say they are extremely disappointed at the decision of the workers to continue the series of strikes.
“The chairman and executive directors are prepared to meet with Unite the Union and staff at any time to discuss the best way forward.”
There will be four more stoppages following the strike on Sunday.
They will be October 7, 15, 23 and 31.
The Network Warrington website – www.networkwarrington.co.uk – will be updated regularly to notify customers of any services still running on the strike days.
