Historic chapel to get plastic windows

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have agreed to allow plastic doors and window frames to be installed in a historic, 186-year-old chapel building.
A new front porch can also be added to Providence Chapel, in Chapel Lane, Stockton Heath.
Work has already started on the alterations to the chapel which dates from 1827 and is reputed to be the seat of the Total Abstinence Movement of 1830.
Planners say this gives the building historical as well as architectural merit – although it is not a listed building.
Plans for alterations to the building for office use were approved last year, although at that time the upvc plastic windows and doors were not included.
But amended plans have now been approved by the borough council’s planning committee.
Planners admitted the revised scheme had some adverse impact on the character and appearance of the chapel. But they argued the changes were not sufficiently different from the proposals already approved to warrant refusal.
