Grappers' lowest score leads to defeat

GRAPPENHALL were bowled out for their lowest score of the season as they went down by five wickets at Macclesfield in the Vivio Cheshire County League.
A slightly below strength side batted first on a wicket that looked bowler friendly and were soon in trouble. Only opener Adam Roylance, with a gritty 23 and wicket keeper Liam Parkinson, with 29 offered much resistance and Grappers were back in the pavilion for a modest 119 – probably about 40 short of a competitive score on the day.
The home side reached 122-5 despite some tight bowling, Luke Williams proving the most effective with 2-32.
Grappenhall 2nd won by seven wickets against the Macclesfield second string, Sam Guest bowling superbly to finish with 8-43. Macclesfield were dismissed for 154 and Will Sharp, 76 not out and Iain Wright, 65 saw Grappers home on 155-3.
Away at Bramhall, Grappenhall 3rd won by three wickets to keep alive their title hopes. The home side were restricted to 106-8, Stanley Pennington taking 2-22 and David Nicholason 2-4.
Runs did not come easily for Grappers, but Tom Roberts, 24, Rob Slater 32 not out and Nicholson, 21 not out took them to a winning 107-7.
Warrington came unstuck in a low scoring game at Bollington, despite a fine spell of bowling from paceman Kyle Adams, who finished with 7-57. Bollington were all out for 116, Paul Farrar chipping in with 2-15.
But Warrington were tumbled out for 70 with Chris Kirby, 27, one of only two batsmen to reach double figures. The home side’s Syed Khan took all 10 wickets for 40 runs in 15.4 overs.
At Walton Lea, Warrington 2nd also went down after visiting Bowdon hit one of the biggest totals of the day, 243-6. Isaac Webster, 43, was Warrington’s most effective bowler.
Webster was busy with the bat also, hitting 43 as Warrington replied with 195. Will Fleetwood top scored with 60.
Warrington 4th fought out a draw with Upton, who batted first and reached 191-4. Warrington were 109-8 at the close, Matthew Jackson top scoring with 23.
In the TACS Partnership Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd were dismissed for 126 after Romiley had declared on 207 for the loss of only one wicket.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Appleton suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Wilmslow at Lyons Lane.
The visitors batted first and declared on 153-8, Amir Aslam taking 3-34 and Danny Oliver 3-38. Appleton were then dismissed for 72, with “extras” the top score with 14 and only two batsmen reaching double figures.
Appleton 2nd also went down at Wilmslow Wayfarers, totalling only 111 after the home side had declared on 200-9.
Glazebury’s recent run of good results came to an end when they were tumbled out for 57 at Haslington, Matthew Shailer, 16 not out being one of only two batsmen to reach double figures. The home side coasted to victory for the loss of two wickets.
Rylands were dismissed for a paltry 45 in another low-scoring game with home side Ellesmere Port losing just four wickets to reach their target.
Stretton were dismissed for 95 by visiting Wilmslow Wayfarers who replied with 96-5.
